Chalice Consort is pleased to announce Chalice Consort Early Music Conference 2012(CCEMC), which brings together performers, scholars, and listeners of early music to examine newly-discovered and edited sacred music from the Renaissance and Baroque eras, and select the top piece from those heard at the conference will be performed at a future concert by the Chalice Consort.

About the Conference:

There are hundreds of masses, motets, chants, and other such works surviving in Renaissance and Baroque choral manuscripts that have never been transcribed into modern notation. Chalice Consort is interested in helping the public rediscover some of these works written between 1400 to 1750.

To facilitate this discovery, Chalice Consort produces an annual Early Music Scholars Competition (EMSC) and the corresponding CCEMC.

The EMSC, as part of the CCEMC, is calling for newly discovered and transcribed (i.e. never published or publicly performed) musical works from anywhere in the world that complement the focal piece of the annual conference, which will be reviewed by early music directors, Chalice Consort, and attendees at the CCEMC. For the 2012 conference, the focal piece will be TBA . Chalice Consort will screen all the music scores submitted and select the top five pieces to present at the CCEMC in April, 14 2012. At the CCEMC, Chalice Consort will sing the five selected pieces under the direction of highly respected early music directors. The performers and attendees of the conference will discuss the works and vote for their favorite piece, which will then be performed by Chalice Consort at an upcoming concert. You can read more about the EMSC here.

This conference offers all attendees the opportunity to be introduced to new early music pieces, and to converse with eminent performers, scholars, students, and listeners of early music.

There will be a moderated discussion after each piece has been sung at the Conference. The scholars are invited to discuss their submitted piece and their editorial work at the conference. The works may be recorded by Chalice Consort and available for purchase at the conference, subject to appropriate copyright issues.

In future years, we hope to expand the program from a one-day conference to a two-day conference or more, and possibly produce the conference in Europe.
